Cpl. Hugo Garcia is more than a cop. He’s a father.
And when he responded to a vehicle break-in call at Hillcrest Park Saturday, he put those fatherly skills to work after meeting a distraught eight-year-old boy.
Garcia reached into his own wallet and gave the boy $25 in cash.
Later that day, the boy’s mother called the watch commander to commend Corporal Garcia.
Here’s the note from the watch commander’s log:
“(A resident) called to commend Garcia for his professionalism as well as his compassion while taking an auto burglary report from her at Hillcrest Park. … her son was very upset when he learned his gift card had been stolen… Garcia’s actions truly turned this unfortunate incident into something positive.”
