Life-savers honored for heroism

The police department recently honored an officer who saved a woman from a burning car and two others who revived a baby.

Cpl. Mike Bova earned the lifesaving medal for pulling a woman, trapped underneath a windshield, from the burning car. The woman had been involved in a collision in February, and the engine compartment was on fire when Bova arrived. IMG_5710

Also honored were Officer Hazel Perez and Cpl. Robert Kirk, who performed CPR on a baby who stopped breathing. Their effort saved the child’s life.

“We applaud all three of these outstanding police officers for jumping into action in crisis situations,” said Sgt. Jeff Stuart. “Their stories and efforts inspire all of us.”

The department also presented Dispatcher Cesar Navarro with a distinguished service medal for going beyond his normal duties and leading the effort to remodel the communications center.
