Fullerton PD raises funds to support Special Olympics athletes

The Police Department played a role in helping the Special Olympics of Orange County raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in April and will support two fund-raising events for the charity in May.

On April 14, Officer Billy Phu, Community Services Officer Juanita Juarez and Police Chief Dan Hughes participated in the organization’s “Special Olympics on Parade” event at the Anaheim Hilton.

Each joined an Olympian in walking around the organization’s gala event, selling raffle tickets. Phu was paired with track and field gold medalist Debi Anderson (pictured here).

“It was a truly inspirational event,” said Phu, a seven-year FPD employee who started his career as a cadet.

Mark your calendars for two upcoming events: on May 16, the public is to have police officers serve them dinner and drinks at Heroes Bar & Grill. The event runs from 5-9 p.m. and officers will donate their tips to charity.

Heroes is located at 125 W Santa Fe Avenue. Call (714) 738-4356 for info.
Then, on May 31, Fullerton officers will participate in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run.

“We are proud to have a long history supporting the Special Olympics and we hope the community will join us in supporting these outstanding athletes,” said Sgt. Jeff Stuart.
